The truth of the matter is that
we really do not have any
'kennels'. Yep - our secret is
out.  No kennels.  With our
twelve acres, we have four very
large yards, including the
house yard. Every yard has a
substantial shelter area and
there are enough trees
scattered about the place to
provide adequate shade
without having
to do without the sun in the
winter.
The Goldens  generally live in
separate yards to the
Westies but we
regularly mix  them for variety
and for
socialisation.

There are four yards.

  • The house yard
    [where the house
    is].
  • The strawberry
    patch yard [where
    we use to grown
    organic
    strawberries].
  • The plain  yard
    [the plainest yard]
  • The kid's yard -
    where the swings
    and trampoline
    reside and
    through which we
    walk to get to the
    car, the shed and
    the grooming
    area.
Our shed is one with a
history.  It was orignally
located on a farming property
and scheduled for
destruction when Stephen,
with some help, dismantled
it and brought it home.

In our shed we have holding
pens, a comfortable
grooming area, the dog
preparation area, a number
of crates and pet carry boxes,
as well as normal family stuff
such as two cars,  the tip
trailer, bikes, ride on mower,
and work benches.  There is
of course 'other stuff' there
that we are going to tidy up
when we next get a minute.

To give you an idea of the
size [if the above contents
doesn't]  - Lis, our
Webmaster can drive her
bus straight into the opening
you see, with plenty of room
to spare.

We love our shed.
Although quite small, this area is very interactive for the dogs as it faces the back door of the house [the one mostly used], is alongside the
clothes line and that's the driveway at the back.
This is a purpose build pen for the
smaller Westie puppies.  This is
used when the Westies are first
graduated from inside the house.
The special box at the back allow
for night time shelter in the
outdoors.  The pen is relocatable
within any of the yards.
Apart from carry boxes, these are the smallest pens we
use.  They are handy at rooming time and  before a show
when the Westies are titivated prior to going into the dog
trailer for transport.
This has only occurred two or three times, and thankfully in the summer storm time.  The dogs obviously are not phased.  The Retrievers just love it.  In this overview, the shed is out of the picture to the right.
The yard you see is the kid's yard.  The plain yard is to the right of it.  The strawberry patch yard is on the other side of the house.  The driveway is on the left and leads to Mt Cotton road.  Li's motorhome
